The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding was established in 1987 with the mission of protecting and breeding giant pandas and other endangered wildlife. The base started with six sick and malnourished pandas rescued from the wild. Over the years, it has become one of the world's leading panda conservation centers, significantly contributing to panda population growth through successful breeding programs.
In the 1990s, the base expanded its facilities, developing specialized panda nurseries, medical research centers, and conservation education programs. By the early 2000s, it became an important international research hub, collaborating with wildlife organizations worldwide. Best: Spring (March-May) & Fall (September-November) – mild weather, active pandas.
