Introduction to Scenic Spots

Kekexili is the largest World Natural Heritage site in China, located in the hinterland of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, with an average elevation of over 4600 meters. This is the habitat of rare species such as Tibetan antelopes and Tibetan wild donkeys, known as the "paradise of life in the forbidden zone". The vast Gobi Desert, scattered lakes, and towering snow capped mountains form a primitive and stunning landscape, making it a holy land for exploring the mysteries of nature and ecological protection.

Recommended tour routes

Half day tour: depart from Golmud → Kunlun Mountain Pass (sightseeing) → return

best season

The best viewing period is from May to September, when wildflowers bloom and Tibetan antelopes migrate actively in July and August; Extreme low temperatures in winter (average -20 ℃) and road closures are not recommended.

Transportation Guide

Public transportation: Take the Qinghai Tibet Railway to Golmud Station, then transfer to the scenic area shuttle bus (one-way 4-hour, ticket price 150 yuan/person)

Self driving: Drive approximately 300km along G109 national highway from Golmud to Kunlun Mountain Pass, then transfer to S303 provincial highway to enter the protected area (pass required)

Distance reference: 300km from Golmud city center, 800km from Xining Airport (12h drive), 1200km from Lhasa Airport (20h drive)

Cost Details

Ticket: Free (advance reservation for ecological experience quota is required)

Eco friendly sightseeing bus: 100 yuan/person (mandatory, limited to designated areas)

Self driving vehicle environmental deposit: 5000 yuan/vehicle (fully refunded upon departure without violation)

Special precautions

Due to heavy snowfall, the mountain is closed and temporarily closed from December to April of the following year

Prohibit carrying sparks and drones into the core area

Frequent altitude sickness, it is recommended to adapt in Golmud two days in advance

Ecological observation regulations must be followed throughout the entire process, and chasing wild animals is prohibited

Storage Service

Golmud Tourist Center offers free luggage storage and is open from 8:00 to 18:00. There are no storage points within the protected area, it is recommended to pack light and travel easily.
