2.  Historical origin

In 686 AD, Emperor Ruizong of Tang established Zhangzhou Commandery to pacify southern Xinjiang, and the legend of "Zhangzhou Port first, then Xiamen Bay" began here. In the Song Dynasty, a earthen city was built with six gates. In the Southern Song Dynasty, stone walls were upgraded. In the Yuan Dynasty, the city was shrunk and moats were excavated. In the Qing Dynasty, the layout was established. The most remarkable achievement was in 1918, when Chen Jiongming demolished the city walls and built a stone dock, allowing the ancient city and the waterfront to breathe together, laying the foundation for a pattern of "half city fireworks, half city river".
