Dazu Rock Carvings
Located in Chongqing’s Dazu District, the Dazu Rock Carvings represent late-period Chinese grotto art. The carvings blend Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, with exquisite detail and deep spiritual themes, making it a masterpiece of ancient sculpture and cultural fusion.
Initiated in the Tang Dynasty and flourishing in the Song Dynasty, the carvings are distributed across Mount Baoding, Mount Beishan, Mount Nanshan, and others. Depicting religious tales and daily life, they reflect both spiritual philosophy and artistic excellence. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
